We will present a broad overview of DEM, including a discussion of some of the capabilities and limitations inherent in conducting DEM simulations, and then discuss how we have taken advantage of our HPC environment to dramatically improve our capability for simulation in this area. We also include some benchmark studies we have carried out to evaluate the performance and scalability of a variety of simulation types.
