DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: This talk will focus on the use of Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations at P&G for the simulation of granular materials, and how we have moved towards the use of open-source software in an HPC environment.  We will present a broad overview of DEM, including a discussion of some of the capabilities and limitations inherent in conducting DEM simulations, and then discuss how we have taken advantage of our HPC environment to dramatically improve our capability for simulation in this area.  We also include some benchmark studies we have carried out to evaluate the performance and scalability of a variety of simulation types.
